High scientific production in 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemics

Despite the pandemic situation in 2020, the researchers of the Center for Geosphere Dynamics were highly productive. A total of 59 papers have been published (printed + in press) in 2020. Papers published in the first and second quartile journals according to Web of Knowledge accounted for 90% of the total. The numbers also include 13 papers in the D1 category and 5 papers in the Nature Index journals.

Successful online meeting of the Center

On Thursday, 19th November 2020, we organized a successful virtual meeting of the Center for Geosphere Dynamics with three lectures given by junior researchers: (1) Valéria Vaškaninová: Revival of our earliest ancestors by means of synchrotron tomography; (2) Jaroslava Hajná: Bohemian Massif records of Neoproterozoic to Lower Paleozoic geodynamic evolution of the northern Gondwanan margin and experimental modelling correlations and (3) Petr Tábořík: Hranice Abyss, the world’s deepest freshwater cave: a new evolutionary model.

Workshop on Mineral Resources

Cristian Quinones, geologist-geostatistician from Chile will stop in Prague during his lecture tour at European universities and will give a two-day workshop on “Practices for Mineral Resources Statement and Study Cases”. The course will take place on 26th and 27th March 2020 (9-17h) in Ložiskové sbírky room, Faculty of Science, Charles University, Albertov 6 building. Topics covered include International Codes, Audits, QAQC, Geological Models, Exploratory Data Analyses. For registration, see with one of the organizers, Dr. Jiří Zachariáš (e-mail). IMPORTANT! Due to coronavirus outbreak, the workshop has been cancelled. We hope to report it to autumn 2020. We apologize for any invonvenience.

Lecture by Karen Hudson-Edwards

Karen Hudson-Edwards, Professor in Sustainable Mining at University of Exeter (UK), will give a lecture entitled „Environmental Minerals: Bacteria, Worms, Dusts, Toxins and the Human Body“ on Monday 13th January 2020 at 3 pm in Ložiskové sbírky (room no. 120, Albertov 6 building, Faculty of Science, Charles University). The lecture takes part of the European Association of Geochemistry Lecture Tour and is partly supported by Center for Geosphere Dynamics. You are cordially invited!

The 2019 publication statistics

In 2019 a total of 50 papers have been published by the Center for Geosphere Dynamics in impacted journals (printed + in press). Papers published in the first and second quartile journals according to Web of Knowledge account for 92% of the total.

Autumn 2019 meeting of the Center

The autumn meeting of the Center for Geosphere Dynamics will take place on Thursday November 7, 2019 at 2 pm in Ložiskové sbírky room, Albertov 6, Faculty of Science. Researchers and PhD students as well as other colleagues are cordially invited. Detailed program of the seminar is available here.

Filip Scheiner successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis

On Friday September, 27th, Filip Scheiner successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis entitled “Geochemical markers from foraminiferal tests as a tool for reconstruction of paleoceanological environments: a case study from the Miocene of the Central Paratethys” (advisor K. Holcová). His Ph.D. research resulted in four papers in highly ranked international journals. Filip will continue as a Junior Researcher affiliated with UNCE. Congratulations!
